Bogosort FTW!

Chris introduced me to a lovely concept - bogosort!
Imagine you wanted to sort a deck of cards - you could either sort it like a sane person or you could throw the cards into the air, pick them up, and if they're not sorted, repeat the process. Surprise - it's not all that efficient =]

In other news, as part of The Hills Grammar team I competed in Progcomp, and we got into the finals - woot ^_^
I didn't do Q1 and Q2 was a joint effort. Lost points in Q5 were due to having O(n^2) or similar instead of a more efficient algorithm and I think I may have done some funky formatting on Question Two.

We'll see how it goes, top prize is $3000 and UNSW scholarships - nice no?

Maths =]

Ok - scratch the last post that I'm failing Extension Math, because as of 8:45am my last assessment I got 100% =]

I'm happy now - all I have to do is get a reasonable mark in Two Unit and I'm set. McClure seems sufficiently shocked ;)

Second edit - it's a few days later and I have my two unit back. 87.5% - it's not the same explosive level as three unit but it's certainly respectable in the least.

Here's to math!

Near a year and near no heart

Nearly a year has past, once again, a disturbingly long period. I never seem to make the time for blog posts unless I'm procrastinating - and when I'm procrastinating I damn well know it, and hence don't really get that far =]

In short -
  • Stopped going to Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra and Senior Concert Band - something regrettable but ultimately needed
  • Went to NCSS
  • Year 12
  • More fixation delusions
  • Universities nearing - appears I'm most likely USyding
  • Python scripting is second nature now
  • Made Perfect have broken up - I guess their website's not worth that much now no?
  • Went to the Debutante again
  • Researched into Natural Language Processing, Neural Networks, Self Organizing Maps etc
  • Failing Extension Math ... Bu yeah ... -dies-
To show you some of the stuff I've done ...

Hayley pulled me to seeing Pirates of the Carribean with their crazy group =]

I really should have known - never trust pirates :S

Went to NCSS, won Top Programmer's Award, then I joined the NCSS Forums (NCSSF)

(I decided to make fun of James Curran, who runs NCSS =])

Started the Weekend Challenge on NCSSF. First weekend was text handling, so I made a Mark V Shaney generator, which produced interesting results to say the least. Second was Plugins, so I made a plugin for Blender that created a Lorentz Attractor.

Third was Artificial Intelligence, so I made a Kohonen self organizing map that when given totally random input would sort it into sensible groups. For example, when entered with totally random colours it moves to -

I also then expanded the application to sort images depending on their overall colour components - some example sorts,

That's where it's at for the Weekend Challenge so far. I motion detection using my webcam under Linux. These were my first few attempts at finding a way to isolate motion.

Putting this into something useful, I eventually ended up with an applet that detected movement - the example below was a result of me just twiddling my fingers.

I shall continue this hit and run down memory lane later =]
